DIRECTOR - MARIA MCINDOO

Director's statement:

When Tom approached me with the idea of making this film, I was immediately drawn to its simplicity. The idea of Catherine’s slow unraveling was interesting to me for a multitude of reasons, including the universal truths of living vicariously (or fear thereof) through your children. Whether you recognize moments from your own childhood, a friend's upbringing, or possibly even the way you're raising your own kids, Catherine's obsession with her daughter opens up so many discussions about parent/child relationships.
I'm used to working and thinking in the feature world, so in terms of script it was interesting to figure out how to get to the point in under ten minutes. Luckily, working with Kerri and Delphina was a dream. Kerri and I instantly clicked and were able to work through Catherine during our rehearsals.
Delphina came through the audition process, where she totally hit it out of the park. And though I didn’t see her again until day one of shooting, she came prepared with a true understanding of Millie.
The film was shot in just a couple of days, and so being surrounded by such a hardworking team, I was able to solely concentrate on making the best movie possible, something I hope everybody is proud of.
